Welcome

It wasn't until the shootings at Columbine when I became aware of the inherent risks we take as educators. It was then I became aware, first of my willingness to defend my students to the point self-sacrifice, and second, that I must re-engage and practice my skills in how to assess potential threatening behavior through non-verbal tells.

This website provides supplemental information to a class I teach, Threat Assessment. It's a three-hour course that can be scheduled as a whole or in parts. It's purpose is to develop skills in teachers, staff and administrators in identifying non-verbal cues of escalation and engaging those who may need intervention.

In addition to providing a resource for those who take the class, this site is a place to create a dialog with and among you as those discerning human behavior on a daily basis.

This dialog helps raise awareness and develop skills to engage those we teach, those we serve, those we assist who may be struggling with isolation or bullying, who feel defeated or mistreated, and on the other side of the spectrum those who default to psychopathic tendencies where a little escalation can lead to violence.

The tabs above link to specific supplemental content of concepts covered in the class. On the right column of this page is a search tool where you can enter terms covered in class and find more information about them, along with individual pages dedicated to these concepts.
